George Baker, killed in action 6 August 1915, age 21 George Baker was born in Dummer Down in 1894. His father was William George Baker, a stockman and subsequently a groom, originally from Nutley. His mother was Emily Baker, daughter of Edward and Bessie Baker, who was born in Farleigh Wallop. George had three brothers, William who was older, Frederick and John who were younger. The family lived in Dummer between about 1892 and 1900 before moving to Old Basing. Both George and his brother William were printers by trade. George served in the 2nd Battalion Royal Hampshire Regiment No: 9148 and was killed in Gallipoli.
